I'm no great chef, but when my wife refuses (which is often) and I have no alternative but to rustle up my own grub, my first choice for a cooking implement is a cast iron skillet. Properly seasoned, these heavy implements will give their owners years of superb service. Their slick, non-stick surface will fry a steak to perfection or sauté' onions or perform any of a number of other culinary functions better (in my opinion) than any other material known to man or woman.
